Customer-centric

    For the customer portal we set up a UX strategy within four weeks, ran 20 research interviews, condensed them into three personas, led design sprints and improved our UX concept over three rounds of usability testing. The SUS score rose by 25 points to 84. The portal then lived for more than seven years.

  • intuitive collaboration

    Redesign of a health-tech web app. Trained the team to run their own paper-prototype studies.

Our designers didn't lose a second: draw up a plan, talk to our customers, analyse the pain points and lay a solid conceptual foundation. The concept for the new customer portal was not only scalable and future-proof but also feasible – and above all it did extremely well in our usability tests.

Innovation

  • ETH Zürich, with afca

    In 2017 we built a HoloLens learning game for ETH Zürich that let students experience complex aspects of molecular biology first-hand. The technology was new, and there were neither UX patterns nor ready-made code components. You aim with your head instead of your hand, so even selection and menus had to be invented from scratch. We dissected other apps, drew wireflows, built prototypes and tested them with students in the lab. One outcome was a radial menu at the cursor with hit areas 30 % larger, so that even first-time users hit their target.

  • CSL Behring, with afca

    In 2018 PlasmiX followed, again with afca, for the clean room at CSL Behring. Live data from the machines flows through a digital twin in Azure onto the HoloLens, right where it is generated. On the patterns from the ETH app we built business logic that stays usable on the HoloLens: on their round, the shift supervisor sees the state of each line and the next manual step. Gold at Best of Swiss App 2018.

Tim worked his way into a subject that was completely new to him and took the time to understand which aspects matter most to me as a scientist and lecturer.

Social engagement

  • Hope Family, Moldova

    In Moldova I coach young entrepreneurs. Ben, for example, is a dispatcher in a village in the north and wants to start his own business. In a one-day workshop we sorted his ideas and turned his values into metrics: not revenue, but punctuality and time for his drivers' families. Start-ups like his make a difference here. My wife Silvia, meanwhile, works in a day centre for children from difficult homes. This is what we have lived in Moldova for since 2021, and why I work remotely.
